Welcome to Church School!

Children at Emmanuel will find a place where they can explore their faith through learning, fun and friendships! In 2009, Church School visited the Community Food Pantry and helped sort and pack baskets for those in need.

Church School offers a Christian education program for children ages four to 12 years old. Child care is available in the Nursery for children under age four. The Nursery and Church School classrooms are located on the second floor of the Parish

This year, classes will be offered every Sunday from 20 September through 9 May with the exception of the following:

             27 December (Sunday after Christmas)
             28 March (Palm Sunday)
             4 April (Easter Sunday)

Church School Curriculum

The Emmanuel Church School uses the Beulah Land Curriculum developed by Gretchen Wolff Pritchard at the Children’s Mission of St. Paula and St. James Episcopal Church in New Haven, Connecticut. This curriculum combines stories from the Bible (by using a felt board) with coordinated activities and projects (including arts and crafts).

How do Church School and Sunday services work?

Children join their parents in the Church at the beginning of the 10:30 am service, then leave for Church School while we sing the hymn preceding the Gospel reading.

Church School concludes at 12 noon. Children are escorted by their teachers to the Parish Hall where they join their parents for coffee hour and refreshments.

On Family Service Sundays, the children go directly to Church School at 10:30 am, then join their parents and the congregation at the Peace during the service. They then are welcome to receive Holy Communion.

Below: St. Nicholas made a surprise visit to the Rectory Open House on Sunday, 13 December.
